From the President

Shawn Rothe, 2017-2018 APICS Milwaukee Chapter President

Welcome to the Milwaukee Chapter of APICS 2017 – 2018 program year!  Our continuous goal as a Chapter is to help Milwaukee Chapter members achieve their Professional Development and Educational Certification Goals.

I want to thank everyone for coming to the September Golf outing and PDM.  The time on the course was great, we had about 28 people between APICS and ISM.  We also had a great PDM after the outing as well.  David Stamm, CEO of Stamm technologies, talked about IT Security.  He talked about Ransom Ware viruses and how to protect yourself and business Learned you may only have two choices, pay the ransom or restore from a backup. They have learned just recently you may be able to negotiate the ransom.  A couple of things to consider, double check to see that the email address matches the name, or if you are not sure, open the email on your Iphone or I-Pad.  It was recommended to use a browser for paying bills and another one for browsing the internet.

The November PDM is on November 16th, it will be held at UWM.  Visit the APICS website to sign up for the PDM.

We continue to offer bi-monthly Breakfast Roundtable Meetings at the Menomonee Falls and Brookfield locations. These are lively discussions of relevant operational topics chosen by the Roundtable participants. Come to hear the challenges and success stories shared by your fellow APICS members. Please visit: HTTP://APICSMILW.ORG/BREAKFAST_ROUNDTABLES for scheduled dates & topics on future Roundtables.

Please visit: HTTP://APICSMILW.ORG/EDUCATION for scheduled dates and times of all our classes.

We look forward to meeting you or to re-connect with you at an APICS event this fall.

Shawn Rothe, CPIM

Roundtable breakfasts were started about 12 years ago.  I was looking for a way of having a PDM type event that allowed the focus to be on the participants' immediate needs.  As a teacher, I enjoyed having students teach students.  They talk the same language.  In the roundtables, everyone participates and helps to teach each other.  The best lesson that comes out of each meeting is "we all play in the same sandbox".  You are not alone.  "Facilitating the roundtables lets me share the gifts that God has given me."

"My life focuses around serving God first, my family second, and work third.  APICS is a part of the third.  Serving God, I am head elder at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brown Deer and a Stephen's Minister (a caring ministry of our church).  My desire was to teach; but, things don't always work the way that you want.  I started in manufacturing at 16 in the stock room at Simpson Electric in Aurora, Il so it was natural to return to manufacturing.  Managing stock was what I enjoyed the most.  I have directed two companies from physical inventories to using cycle counting to drive inventory accuracy.  The theme for my manufacturing life has been adding value."

Fred's family consists of his wife, Jean, two daughters with families, and 4 grandchildren.
