April 2017 Print

From the President

Hello APICS Members!

Did you know that APICS CPIM Certification exams are being reconfigured?

The reasons for the changes are:  1) Customer feedback on program length and dissatisfaction on the number of exams required; 2) The new configuration brings the CPIM program more in-line with the format and delivery expectations of other comparable certification products; 3) The new configuration addresses content overlap between modules.

What is the change:  The number of Exams to earn the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) designation will drop from the current 5 to 2 exams.   The new exams will be longer in both the number of items – 150 items, and in the length of time – the new exams will be 3 ½ hours long.

However, because there is no real content change, APICS will continue to offer the current courseware and exams concurrently with the new courseware and exams.   Therefore, if you already started certification classes, you can continue to do so.  The Milwaukee Chapter will continue to offer classes for the current certification this Fall through Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC).  Please visit our website for the schedule of classes.

The changes for the new reconfigure exams are as follows:

1.  The new Exam Content Manual will be available June 1, 2017.

2.  The last day to take the Legacy Basics of Supply Chain Management (BSCM) exam will be January 7, 2018.

3.  Legacy BSCM Authorization to Test (ATTs) and Exam Content Manual (ECs) expire January 7, 2018; countdown begins July 7, 2017.

4.  Part 1 and Part 2 exams will be available for purchase November 1, 2017.

5.  Cut Score for Part 2 exam ratified December 1, 2017.*

6.  Part 1 and Part 2 exams will be delivered on-demand beginning January 8, 2018.

*Because the Cut Score will be established for the Part 2 exam prior to the exam launch, all candidates will receive their exam scores immediately at the test center upon completion of their exam.

After July 7, 2017 the new exam information would be available at   Or simply stop after a PDM to ask questions.

As always, looking forward to connecting with you at the next PDM.

Tere Eckrose

Next PDM Event

Join APICS Milwaukee Chapter for a plant tour of Hydro-Thermal in Waukesha followed by networking & dinner. Hydro-Thermal traces its roots back to 1927, when inventors John White and Roy Miller patented heating equipment using steam to precisely control water temperature. The device was “direct in action,” extended the service life and used a “valve seat with a sliding closure member”. These components continue to serve as a foundation for Hydro-Thermal's direct steam injection technology today.

Manufacturing industrialist, Harry Schauer brought this technology to paper mills in the early 1930s. Through collaboration with chief engineers from Kimberly-Clark, they applied the equipment to heat byproducts for cooking in digesters, recaustization, atomizing, and providing accurately controlled hot water. The heater became the heat catalyst in these chemical reactions and became known as the Hydroheater™, which was first manufactured in 1934.

In 1964, the Zaiser family purchased the business and renamed it Hydro-Thermal Corporation. Today, Jim Zaiser represents the third generation, leading the company’s product diversification, advanced two-phase flow realization, international expansion, and system integration. The company has continued its application to the traditional industries as well as new installations in petroleum, mining, and food processing.

Hydro-Thermal has more than a dozen active patents and registration in numerous foreign countries. It manages business processes though an integrated ISO 9001 quality procedure. An on-site test lab allows engineers, researchers and academia to completely understand and develop new innovative and value-added processes.
