Welcome to the Milwaukee Chapter of APICS 2017 – 2018 program year!  Our continuous goal as a Chapter is to help Milwaukee Chapter members achieve their Professional Development and Educational Certification Goals.

The October PDM is on Tuesday, October 10th, it will follow the annual joint Supplier Showcase at Marquette University. This is your opportunity to network with APICS, ISM, ASQ, AWMI, & PMI members during the Showcase as well as enjoy a fantastic dinner & speaker, Bob Babisch, VP of Entertainment for Summerfest / Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. The Milwaukee chapter is preparing to launch the APICS Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD) credential program. This new certification will provide you with the information you need to meet today’s supply chain logistics challenges. We plan to launch the local education course related to this new credential in 2018.  We are also working on the new CPIM course changes for the new year.  We are planning to have the new Basics Module 1 to start up in January and we are working on a start date for Module 2.

We continue to offer bi-monthly Breakfast Roundtable Meetings at the Menomonee Falls and Brookfield locations. These are lively discussions of relevant operational topics chosen by the Roundtable participants. Come to hear the challenges and success stories shared by your fellow APICS members. Marquette University Joint Event - Supplier Showcase & Evening PDM

Each fall the Milwaukee Chapter of APICS...along with the local chapters of AWMI, PMI, & ISM come together for a joint meeting at Marquette University. The meeting is broken down into two parts, beginning with a Supplier Showcase where local vendors & companies exhibit their latest products and services, and concluding with a dinner & educational speaker.

Hors d'oeuvres are available during the showcase portion of the event. A cash bar is also available throughout the entire evening.

We are pleased to announce our speaker for the Dinner PDM:

Bob Babisch, Vice President of Entertainment, for Summerfest & Milwaukee World Festival, Inc.  Bob will share insights into the business aspects of the World's Largest Music Festival, and the music business as a whole.

A 35-year veteran of Milwaukee World Festivals Inc., Bob manages a $6 million talent budget for Milwaukee Summerfest. In addition to leading the music production team during Summerfest, he oversees the music portion of events held on the Summerfest grounds, including the Marcus Amphitheater, throughout the summer season. He has booked talent for many of the Harley Davidson Anniversary events, as well as the Tempe Music Festival and the Milwaukee Admirals. He has worked with acts as diverse as Jimmy Buffett, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, No Doubt, Kanye West, Tina Turner, Prince, Dave Matthews, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Jason Aldean, to name a few.

September Golf Outing and PDM Event

Everyone who participated in the 2nd Annual Joint ISM Milwaukee/APICS Milwaukee Golf Outing enjoyed a BEAUTIFUL day on the course at New Berlin Hills Golf Course!  We had a fun golf outing  AND raised funds towards ISM Milwaukee & APICS Milwaukee Student Scholarships. 

Another 20 attendees joined us for the banquet and PDM with speaker David Stamm, CEO of Stamm Technologies.  David's presentation "Is your Business Fully Protected from a Breach"  provided some great insights into avoiding IT problems related to ransomware and social engineering. David discussed best practices for security and risk management that are inexpensive and easy to implement.

Join us on October 11th to discuss: "TEMPORARY WORK FORCE, Their Place in Your Place."  Special guest is Chris Keto, Senior Consultant.

Chris is an HR Professional with a broad generalist background, adept at negotiations, benefits, and compliance issues, and recognized as a natural trainer who enjoys helping companies navigate challenging regulations and prepare for success.  Chris is an “idea” person who developed and implemented specialized training programs in a manufacturing setting to achieve a more highly trained workforce and retain skilled labor.  She has experience crafting wage ranges and providing compensation analysis. 

Chris was Vice President of Human Resources at CL&D Graphics, a large printer of consumer product packaging solutions located in Oconomowoc, WI.  During her 16- year tenure there, she helped build a successful management team for succession as the company doubled in size.  Chris was a hands-on executive at CL&D who along with her team brought solutions for a talented workforce, and entrepreneurial bottom line improvements such as managing workers’ compensation claims to attain the lowest MOD ratings for the company and holding benefit plan increases to less than 5% for consecutive years.   

Helping to grow the company to 300+ in four plants and multiple locations. Chris was responsible for payroll, benefits negotiation and plan implementation along with workers’ compensation, policy, safety, recruiting and hiring and employee development.  Chris also developed a team to bring about these results, and prior to leaving CL&D, Chris personally recruited her replacement for continued success.  

Today, business clients rely on Chris’ expertise to steer them toward process improvements and prepare them for success in a wide range of human resource responsibilities.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, Cum Laude, in Communication and Business Administration from Concordia University in Mequon, WI.  She also attended one year at MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) pursuing a Master’s of Science in Engineering Management.  Chris was awarded a Human Resource Management Certificate from Marquette University.

Director Spotlight

Christy Campbell is the Director of Education for the APICS Milwaukee Chapter.  She is keeping busy this year with the changes in the CPIM certification program, as well as coordinating the APICS classes with WCTC. Christy works with students and members to obtain the APICS education that best suits their needs.

Christy has been working in supply chain for twenty-two years. She is currently the Supply Chain Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific Milwaukee. She has been with Thermo Fisher for 14 years starting there as the Master Scheduler in 2003. Thermo Fisher is a manufacturing company that services the life science industry. Christy enjoys leading the Sourcing and Procurement efforts as well as leading Production Planning. She is also responsible for inventory management and drives her team forward in continuous improvement efforts. Prior to her position at Thermo Fisher, Christy managed the California operations and supply chain for Tekra Corporation, a plastic film supplier based out of New Berlin, Wisconsin.

Christy earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She also holds a CPIM certification from APICS and a certificate in leading lean manufacturing.

Christy has been a member of APICS since 2009 when she and her associates began attending local APICS meetings. Thermo Fisher has benefited from the knowledge and ideas gained from going to PDMs and networking with other APICS members. Christy enjoys going to the APICS breakfast roundtables to benchmark and share best practices with other supply chain professionals in southeastern Wisconsin. She found it was beneficial to know that other companies have similar problems and opportunities.

Christy moved to Wisconsin from Southern California in 1996 with her family. She enjoys going back to California to visit her parents and the family cabin whenever she can. She also enjoys hunting and fishing with her family in the Badger state.

Certification Class Schedule

Education is at the heart of APICS' mission and the Milwaukee Chapter is committed to providing a strong schedule of classes and courses that will help individuals enhance their professional careers and improve your organization's bottom line. For details on the APICS CPIM, CSCP, & other educational offerings and certifications, please see the Chapter's Education Page on our website.

After listening to our audience, the Chapter made the decision to switch its classes from weekends to weeknights. Keep that in mind when you review the available courses and dates. All Fall 2017 classes are held at Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC). The Chapter will be continuing its partnership with WCTC and their excellent venue.
