From the President

Hello APICS Members!

I receive lots of e-mails regarding educational opportunities; e-mails detailing all the challenges and opportunities in the Supply Chain World.  The e-mails come with catchy titles to stand out from the crowd.  There are surveys, research inquiries, Universities offering the latest course to help you succeed in your job; there are papers available to download, webinars, etc.

Which leads me to a question that we, the Milwaukee Chapter of APICS, struggle with.  How to reach you?  How to make you aware of all the opportunities we offer?  We strive for a balance on how much communication to send your way without overwhelming you with e-mails that would go unread.

Are you aware of the CPIM Certification changes coming your way?  You may visit www.apics.org for additional information, or make sure to review communication that will be coming from your Chapter.

In fact, the January PDM, held at Klemmer's Banquet Center, featured Bob Collins, CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP, CLCP.  Bob is the Senior Director of Professional Development for APICS.  He discussed the CPIM Certification and reviewed the Certification Modules and exams under the current system, and under the new; he also explained the timeline for the upcoming changes.  Bob also discussed the latest APICS Certification, CLTD (Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution).   Additionally Bob gave an excellent analysis on what type of Certification we should seek based on our current job and job goals.  CPIM vs. CSCP vs. CLTD.  Overall it was a very educational evening, featuring good food, good network, and an excellent speaker.

The February PDM topic is Eder Flag Case Study: Continuous Improvement.  Learn how Eder Flag was able to apply the principles of continuous improvement to make their already successful business even more successful.  This Case study presentation is sure to give you some ideas on how to make similar improvements in your warehousing and distribution facility.

The March PDM is a plant tour of Beyond Vision; a manufacturing company offering fulfillment, assembly, packaging and customer care services.   Beyond Vision is a company dedicated to providing opportunities for sustainable employment to Americans who are blind.  The April PDM will also be a plant tour, we will visit Hydro-Thermal in Waukesha.

As always, looking forward to connecting with you at the next PDM.

Businesses around the world are reiterating or shifting their priorities as a result of the new US president and expected policy changes. This week, DHL, a provider of international express mail, freight transportation, e-commerce, and supply chain management services, released survey results examining US business priorities for 2017. The survey, which was conducted immediately after the November 2016 US election, was distributed to more than 100,000 DHL customers in the United States.
